College Library has two sections : General
and Reference. The general library consists of a reading room
(ground floor) a reference cum reading room (first floor) and
the general stack (second floor on the first mezzanine floor).The
libraries of the various departments are housed in the third
and fourth floors.The third floor is the reading room and the
reference section for the postgraduate students and its mezzanine
floor or the fourth floor is the departmental stack.

Only the staff and students of the college are members of the
library. Students coming to the library should show, if demanded,
their identity cards to the library staff without which library
service may be refused to them. Silence must be strictly observed
in and around the library.
Students are not allowed to take any book
into the library. (A notebook may be taken into the reading
rooms). They have to leave their books and umbrellas in
the property counter at the entrance for which they should get
tokens from the counter assistant.

Each student is given two borrower’s cards from the General
Library when he applies for them in the prescribed form. One
book at a time may be borrowed against each card. When the book
is returned to the library the card will be given back.In addition
each postgraduate student may get three borrower’s cards and
graduate students one card from the departmental library.
Students are expected to take care
not to lose any card issued to them. A student to whom a card
is issued will be responsible for all the books borrowed against
that card by anybody.

Whenever a student has to get a no dues chit or a clearance
certificate from the library he must have returned to the library
all cards lent to him.
To borrow a book from the library find
out the required book yourself or with the help of the library
catalogue or with the assistance of the library staff, then
make the necessary entries in the borrower’s card, in the book
slip and in the ledger placed in the library.Then hand over
the book to the library assistant who will imprint the due date
on the date label and issue the book.
Members must, on receiving the books,
examine them and report to the library staff any damage found
therein. If they fail to do so they will be held responsible
for any damage detected afterwards.

A book borrowed should be returned on or before the date last
marked on its date label.An overdue charge of ten paise will
be levied for each day after the due date.When a book is returned
late the member has to fill up and sign an overdue charges slip
and submit it to the counter.The card will be returned to the
borrower only after this.Once a book is issued it will not be
taken back on the very same or very next day.

Do not make any marking
or underlining in the books and periodicals belonging to the
library or disfigure them in any other way.
If a book is damaged or lost by a member,
he shall pay a cost for replacing the book.If one of a set of
books is damaged or lost by a member, he must replace it with
a copy of the same edition.If it is not available he shall replace
the whole set.
Members are not allowed to sub-lend the
cards or books issued to them.
All payments shall be made to the College
Office.However a contract slip must be signed and submitted
to the library.

Reference books and journals will not
be issued generally for use outside the library and if they
are issued out with special permission for overnight reference,
it shall be returned to the library the very next day as soon
as the library opens.Otherwise an overdue charge of five paise
for each hour of delay will be levied from the defaulter.

When a borrowed book is lost
by a member he must report the matter to the library, fill up
the necessary forms and get back his card.Otherwise he will
have to pay not only the cost of replacing the book but also
the fine accumulating until the card is got back.

The librarian can refuse to issue the same books
to the same borrower repeatedly if it is necessary to prevent
the monopolisation of a book required by many.
Rare books, books of very high cost, art
books etc. may not be issued for use outside the library.
Books are issued to the members of
the staff when they make the necessary entries in the ledger
maintained for them.

The maximum number of books a teacher may
posses on loan from the library at a time will be fifteen from
the department library and fifteen from the general library.
Teachers who borrow books from departments
other than theirs will have to return them within fifteen days.
Members of non-teaching staff are expected
to return to the library books borrowed by them within a month
after borrowal.
All books borrowed must be returned
to the library every year before the last day of April for checking
and verification.
The librarian can recall from a borrower
any book at any time
All services of the Library may be
suspended to any one violating the rules of the library.
