Prof. P.V. Ulahannan Mapplia

The legendary teacher of Malayalam and an icon of Malayalam studies at St. Berchman’s college, Changanacherry, Kerala. He served the department of oriental languages as a faculty member and Head of the Department for over forty years. He was the first Syrian Christian from Travancore, with an MA degree in Malayalam.

Mary Anne John Stuttgen

Grand daughter of Prof. Ulahannan Mapilla and Mr. K.J. Chacko, Tharayil, daughter of Mrs. Thankamani John and Dr. Joshy John. She graduated in English Literature and European studies from Essex University. At the age of 29 she left the world for eternal life. She was an ardent lover of art and literature.

Dr. Joshy John on behalf of the friends, students and relatives of Prof. Ulahannan Mappila founded the centre in 2004. It has a three storied facility which includes a digital theatre/seminar hall, a library and reading hall.

Ulahannan Mapplia and Mary Anne John Stuttgen memorial trust administers the functioning of the centre. The centre is giving a lead role in coordinating various research projects, memorial lectures, seminars, workshops, etc. More...
